Opis

The twentieth century was one of immense social and political change. The very meaning of the political and constitutional project that began with the Age of Revolutions that attempted to move toward liberalism, the rule of law, and democracy was seriously challenged by two World Wars and a half-century of totalitarianism behind the Iron Curtain. Though the Soviet Union fell, challenges to a world order based on laws and rules unfortunately still persist, as countries like Russia, China, and Iran continuously try to undermine principles of national sovereignty, individual liberty, good government based on constitutions that limit the power of the state, and peaceful trade. The task to defend and uphold its freedom and institutions falls to each and every generation, and this volume hopes to contribute to such attempts by adding in more and less well-known voices from Eastern Europe, especially comparing the contributions of the Anglo-American and Polish legal traditions.
